Vetiver is a tall perennial grass with long narrow leaves and extensive fine rootlets, which yield the essential oil. A native of India, Vetiver has been used in Asia for centuries for its fragrance, and the grass is woven into aromatic matting, and screens and also has a practical agricultural use as the dense lacework of rootlets helps to prevent soil erosion during tropical rains.
