Rosemary essential oil is mainly produced in Tunisia, Spain, Morocco, Croatia and France. It is a native to the Mediterranean countries and has been used for thousands of years as a sacred and culinary herb. It has also been used throughout history as a medicinal herb with a wide range of applications.

Other varieties of Rosemary exist, and these are called chemotypes of Rosmarinus officinalis. Reflecting its variable chemistry depending on the growing conditions. It is a member of the Lamiaceae (Labiatae) botanical family.

A top aromatic note with a strong, fresh, camphoraceous and herbaceous smell. Rosemary essential oil blends well with citrus oils, spices and other herbs. These include Lavender, Lemongrass, Frankincense, Peppermint and Petitgrain.

Circulatory System

Rosemary essential oil may assist with supporting in conditions of the circulatory system. It has a warming action on the skin and is thought to have stimulant and circulatory tonic actions. Warming to the extremities, it is often called upon to encourage a normal and healthily functioning circulatory system. 

 

Nervous System

As with the circulatory system, the nervous system may benefit from using Rosemary essential oil. The oil could assist with increasing circulation to the brain and nervous system, which may improve memory, focus and concentration. Also regarded as a tonic, restorative and stimulant to the nervous system, it may help with debility, mental fatigue, nervous exhaustion, headaches and migraines. 

 

Skin

May assist with hair and scalp problems. Thought to support optimum circulation to the scalp, which may be beneficial when dealing with alopecia and when hoping to stimulate hair health and growth. 

It is also thought to have astringent actions on the skin and therefore could be of benefit to oily skin and acne. 

 

Musculoskeletal System 

This warming nature of the oil feels wonderful on tired, achy and stiff muscles when used in a massage oil blend. It offers a restorative and invigorating experience when applied topically, which can bring much-needed relief from muscular aches and pain, stiffness sprains and strains. 

Also could be beneficial to use in any weakness of the body as well as sports preparation and post-workout oil blend.





The following ways to use the essential oil should help you to get the most benefit from the oil. 

 

For use with the Circulatory and Musculoskeletal System

Warming Massage Oil

Rosemary essential oil essential can be beneficial for both the musculoskeletal and circulatory system when used as part of an invigorating body massage oil blend.

Blend with any other oils of your choice Into 25ml of carrier oil. 

The dilution ratio will be 2-3% (12-15 drops) in 25ml of carrier oil for adults bodily application.

For elderly people, those with sensitive skin, or those with medical conditions a 1% dilution (5 drops) is needed.

 

For use with the Nervous System

Diffuser Method

Add between 3-8 drops (depending on room size) of Rosemary essential oil to the surface of the water in your diffuser. Or onto the pad in fan-driven vaporisers. Replenish as needed. May be combined in a blend with other essential oils up to the maximum amount of drops. Blends well with most other essential oils.

 

Aromatherapy Focus Rollerball 

In a 15ml empty rollerball bottle, combine Rosemary essential oil with 10ml of suitable carrier oil. Between 2-5 drops depending on the site of application.

Maximum of 2 drops if wanting to apply to the face, such as on the temples.

For bodily application up to 5 drops is appropriate.

Blends well with most other essential oils.

 

For use with the skin and hair.

Warming Rosemary hair and scalp oil

Dilute a 1% blend (6 drops in 30 ml of carrier oil) of Rosemary essential oil. Use the oil blend on dry hair and massage into the scalp to help stimulate the circulation. You may like to cover the hair and scalp with a warm towel and leave the infusion to work for around 30 minutes before shampooing out.





Avoid use with epileptics, because of variable camphor content.
